Keiser University hosts Commencement Ceremonies at Naples Campus for 32 Master’s students in Nurse Anesthesia.
NAPLES, FL- Keiser University hosted the first commencement ceremony of graduates who have completed their master’s degree in Nurse Anesthesia at its new Florida campus in Naples. The number of classes in advanced nursing is 32. This is how many graduates crossed the stage at Naples Hilton on Saturday, February 23rd, to accept their degrees in front of a crowd of well-wishers.
The Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia (MSNA) program is currently in the teach-out phase. The program’s enrollment was halted in August 2020. The last graduating class is expected to be in December 2022.
To produce competent and skilled CRNAs, the Keiser University Master of Science program in Nurse Anesthesia was created. There are two stages to the program: a didactic stage that lasts 12 months and a clinical-stage that lasts 16 months. Both can be found in Naples, Florida. The didactic phase is front-loaded to provide the necessary knowledge to transition to an immersive clinical stage. After completing the clinical setting, graduates will be competent and ready to work as Nurse anaesthetists.
The students will learn clinical anaesthesia during the clinical stage. Throughout the clinical experience, didactics will also be included. This knowledge is essential to pass the National Certification Exam. The students will have the opportunity to practice in a wide range of settings with an average case count that exceeds the minimum requirements.
Lynda Waterhouse, Campus President, stated that it had been a challenging 28 months for our graduates, their families, and friends. She also acknowledged the many sacrifices made along the way. The knowledge and skills you gained over this period will stay with you for the rest of your life. You’ve persevered and achieved your goal.
Graduates wore academic regalia to participate in the hooding ceremony. This is reserved for doctoral and master’s degree candidates. The ceremony is where a professional or faculty member places the hood on the head of the graduate to signify their completion of the graduate program.
Mallory Stanton graduated from the University of Michigan. Her mother, Marilyn Stanton, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetist and retired as her daughter starts work at the Ann Arbor hospital. Mallory is also a national champion at trap, and skeet firing, which involves using shotguns to aim at clay targets that are thrown into the air with spring devices called traps. She enjoys skydiving and plans to take her graduation cap out of the sky in a post-ceremonial skydive. She believes that her passion for skydiving has sharpened her skills in school and will translate to her new career.
Stanton stated, “I believe the mindset you get shooting competitively allows you to focus under stress.” “If you are good at something, and can focus, then you can apply that skill in other areas.”
Sonya Pease, M.D., Chief Clinical Officer for Team Health Anesthesia, gave the keynote speech. She shared some of her anaesthesia experiences and highlighted that it is one of the safest medical professions. Dr Pease also shared advice from her graduation ceremony.
She said, “If you treat your patients like they were family members, you’ll make the right decisions.”
The 28-month Keiser University Master of Science Nursing Anesthesia program provides students with a wide range of clinical experiences that will prepare them to pass the national certification exam to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. The Naples campus has simulated operating rooms and a control area that programs mannequins in high-risk scenarios to help students.
Keiser University’s new campus provides another opportunity to offer advanced education programs to students across Florida and nationally, particularly in the allied healthcare field. This program provides a graduate-level degree that is responsive to both the growing needs of the state and the national nursing shortage.
CRNAs, one of the most highly-demanded advanced practice specialities within the healthcare industry, are among the highest-paid nurses, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition to completing the required field-based practicum, candidates must also complete three supervision sessions with the Region 10 Field Supervisor. During these sessions, the mentor provides ongoing support, enables candidates to ask questions, and helps students develop a sense of self-efficacy.
Candidates are encouraged to engage in full-time study. Each module includes reading assignments, review questions, forum discussions, and projects. All work is graded using a rubric. A passing score of 80% applies to all assignments and assessment administrations.

Educational Diagnosticians are qualified professionals who assess students with suspected disabilities and advise educators and general school personnel. They also develop and manage evaluations and test data. The TAC Standards for Educational Diagnosticians guide the activities of Educational Diagnosticians.
The Region 10 CERTification Program for Educational Diagnosticians is a professional educator preparation program that prepares candidates to meet the TAC Standards for Educational Diagnosticians. Candidates may earn their certification through either a face-to-face or online course. This program is accredited by the Texas Education Agency.
The program is comprised of three main components: a hired internship, field-based practicum, and pre-service coursework. It is a full academic year program that concludes with the conferral of Certification as an Educational Diagnostician.
Candidates in the field-based practicum must accrue a minimum of 200 clock hours in Educational Diagnostician activities. These experiences are closely monitored and provide the candidate with a realistic perspective of the field.
Once candidates complete their pre-service coursework, they are eligible to apply for hire. To be eligible, participants must pass the TExES examination for Educational Diagnosticians.
The Region 10 Educational Diagnostician Certification Staff Support Program is designed to provide candidates with a comprehensive knowledge base to become effective diagnosticians. The program focuses on assessment, intervention, and professional conduct. This program also provides ongoing support and training to its members.
Field-based experiences allow candidates to obtain a comprehensive perspective of the field. Students receive feedback and guidance from their supervisors and instructors. These experiences allow candidates to apply what they have learned in the classroom to a real-world setting.
Each candidate in the Region 10 CERT Program for Educational Diagnosticians will be required to participate in a field-based practicum. Candidates will receive close supervision from the CERT Field Supervisor. Practicum candidates are expected to accumulate at least 200 clock hours of Educational Diagnostician activities in order to qualify for graduation.
In addition to the field-based practicum, the CERT Program for Educational Diagnosticians includes pre-service coursework, a paid internship, and ongoing professional development. Upon completion of the internship and a successful field-based experience, candidates will be awarded Certification as an Educational Diagnostician.
